Lautoka City Council Concludes Comprehensive Food Safety and Hygiene Training for Market Vendors

The Lautoka City Council has successfully concluded its intensive two-day Good Hygiene Practices and Food Safety Training designed specifically for local market vendors.

The comprehensive training program aimed to enhance public health standards by equipping frontline vendors with critical knowledge surrounding proper hygiene, safe food handling, general cleanliness, and preventative food safety protocols. By building these practical skills, the initiative ensures a significantly safer, healthier, and more reliable environment for both market operators and the everyday consuming public.

This critical capacity-building initiative was made possible through the robust, ongoing collaboration between the Lautoka City Council, the Market Vendors Association, and UN Women Pacific. The training was delivered under the flagship Markets for Change (M4C) Programme, which is proudly supported and funded by the Australian Government. The project partners actively contributed to the successful execution of the two-day syllabus and supplied all necessary educational and training materials to the participants.

With the successful completion of Day 2, Lautoka’s market vendors are now better prepared to champion high safety standards, marking a valuable milestone toward fostering healthier municipal markets and sustainable community wellness.
